The "bankers hot rod". It was full of luxury and performance features. Rare, only 1,617 made total in 1961. It's an interesting, exciting car with so many unique features inside, outside and under the hood. This is a really clean, honest example. It was body off frame restored. Comes with a 3 inch stack of restoration and maintenance receipts. Wow, I just looked through the records. The owner of the last 8 years spent over $10,000 getting it dialed in. It's no wonder the functions as good as it does. EXTERIOR: Sold new at Converse Motor Co, Albuquerque NM. Very clean dry body. It's straight as an arrow, even down along the bottoms of the car. The paint is slick. All the stainless trim has been buffed and polished to show quality. The 300 side emblem, door handles, mirrors were replaced. Chrome vent window pillars are mint. All the chrome looks redone. Up front the entire grill area is mint. In back it's just as nice. Look at the cars styling features. Up front has the big mouth grill with quad headlights at a slat on each side. The rear wings on top the 1/4 panels make it look fast sitting still. The ribbed trunk lid is a nice touch. INTERIOR: Inside is even cooler then the outside. My favorite feature are the swivel seats. The console extends front to back with armrests cushions making 4 bucket seats. The upholstery is perfectly broken in genuine leather. The dash is space age looking. Over $2,000 was spent restoring the electroluminescent gauge cluster. This is one of the coolest features and it works and looks like new. Restored clock, upgraded with quartz movement. Restored tachometer. Restored steering wheel ($1,400). Other features include push button transmission, power windows and seat. Has new headlight switch, turn signal switch, parking brake release handle, visor tips, he even replaced glovebox light and switch. Very nice condition throughout. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Big 413 with 375 hp! Check out the cross ram with dual 4 barrel carbs. The air cleaners were powder coated and new decals applied. Rebuilt variable speed wiper motor, wiper and washer switch. NOS washer bag. New $1,200 wiring harness. Air conditioning was serviced and updated with R134 freon. New a/c wiring harness. The heater control valve, actuator and a/c pushbutton were rebuilt. Power steering gearbox was rebuilt. Both carbs were rebuilt. Completely rebuilt correct distributor. Everything looks clean and proper. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Rock solid, you can jump up and down in there. It does have the cardboard side walls and a carpeted floor. Trunk is so huge the full size spare takes up hardly any room. Has complete jack, trunk light works. Has a couple of shop manuals too. UNDERSIDE: The Torqueflite trans was rebuilt. Brakes were converted to disc in front. The rear drums and hub assemblies were replaced. Hoses and lines look newer. Shocks were replaced. Rear springs and bushings were replaced. The subframe was removed, bushings replaced. Front suspension was rebuilt. Very clean, no rust. The floors and chassis are clean metal. New Mexico- Arizona car for a big part of its life. This car just got better and better the closer I looked. So many typically over looked items have been restored. The pile of documents go back to when the car was produced. It tells the whole story. This is such an interesting car and it's in such nice condition. The next owner will be very proud! I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant amount of effort goes into fact checking.
