Have you ever wanted to drive some of the famous rally routes of days gone by? Well this may be the opportunity you have been waiting for. The 15-50 November Sun Run is a great way to experience some of the thrills of a classic car event. The event is suitable for all levels of experience, from newcomers right through to those of you who have experienced this type of event before. To all, this should prove to be a challenge and to newcomers a great learning experience.

 

The first day recce has now taken place and the route has changed. This has reduced the first days distance but will allow us to spend more time to enjoy the route. We will then tackle the mountains from the north.

 

The start will take place in the village of Eclance which is 10 kms from Bar sur Aube in the champagne region of France. After a long concentration run of over 425 kms the first night will be spent near St Etienne. The second night will be spent in Aubenas in the Ardeche region. During the time spent in this region we will tackle some of the famous rally routes of the 60`s such as Burzet and St Bonnet les Froid. We will then head off in the direction of Aix les Bains for two nights. On the final day we will tackle the famous Alpes D` Huez, this climb with its 21 hairpin bends is a drive not to be missed.

 

The challenge is suitable for all levels of experience, experts as well as beginners. It is a tough challenge due to the long distances involved.

The event is non profit making.

 

The event can only accommodate 25 entries. This allows crews to get to know each other, something that is often lost on large events. In order not to be disappointed please enter early. The closing date for entries is Friday 19th September 2008.

 

 

Outline programme to date.

 

Friday 31st October.

Signing on followed by an evening meal and get together at the Auberge de La Plaine Hotel and Restaurant. The hotel is situated in the village of La Rothiere, the scene of Napoleans first defeat on french soil. This is included in the entry fee.

 

Saturday 1st November. The run to the sun.

The route will take us through charming champagne villages before we enter the burgundy Cote D`Or countryside. The estimated distance is 425kms. Overnight stay in St Etienne.

 

 

Sunday 2nd November. Circuit of Vals les bains.

A distance of over 270 kms taking in many of the famous challenging rally routes of the 60s. Overnight stay in Aubenas.

 

 

Monday 3rd November. Aubenas to Aix les Bains.

Part of the morning will be spent in the mountains near to Vals les Bains before we leave for a spectacular drive to Aix les Bains. Estimated distance of 350 kms.

 

Tuesday 4th November. Aix les Bains to the Alpes D`Huez.

Taking in some of the highest drivable routes in the Alps. Returning to Aix-les-Bains for the final evening dinner and awards presentation.

 

 

Entry fees

 

The entry fee is ú120 or 180 euros for a car and 2 crew. Additional crewmembers are ú50 or 80 euros each.

In order to keep administration costs to a minimum you are requested to make your own hotel bookings. A hotel list will be provided (see hotel section).

Navigation

 

Navigation will be by road book. Code boards will be used to ensure compliance with the correct route. The road book will be given out at the beginning of the event. There is no tricky navigation.
