The first series of Corvettes to warm the hearts of Americans began in 1953. Continuing in the afterglow of its introduction, Chevrolet launched a second team of Corvettes by 1956. Although the new small block V8 had already been in production a year earlier, under Zora Arkus-Duntov ’ s guidance it finally began to fulfill its promise as a true performer. Chevrolet made modifications to the car ’ s body in 1958 and as a result, the longer, lower and sleeker-looking Corvette had finally taken its best form. By 1959, Chevrolet was producing almost 10,000 units per year – proof that the company had developed a winner on several fronts.

This matching numbers 1959 Corvette is in better than new condition. It passed through the ownership of an “ over-restorer ” who openly admits his standards of restoration are fanatical. The Corvette underwent a two-year restoration, however the body was never pulled from the frame as the underside of the car was in exceptional condition. The car was stripped down to the bonding seams and was re-gelcoated using a polyester catalyst blocking primer. The original Crown Sapphire exterior paint was reapplied as well as the original cream color to the coves. The standard of the restoration was to “ original specification or better. ” All original components were refurbished if possible throughout the course of the restoration. This was done despite being more expensive than replacing them with new aftermarket parts. The original factory trim has a higher nickel content, so in light, the original trim actually sparkles! Even the stainless parts look as nice as the finest chrome.

Mechanically, this example has the matching numbers, optional 270bhp 283 cubic inch eight-cylinder engine with dual quad carburetion, and solid lifter cams. The engine was completely rebuilt and meticulously detailed. All the wires were re-harnessed and the gauges re-stenciled. The transmission is a factory optional close ratio four- speed, delivering power to a Posi-Traction rear end. Other factory options include the cream soft top, WonderBar radio, Off-Road exhaust system, heater, windshield washers, interior courtesy lights, parking brake light and sunshades.

This is a highly decorated car: it was Western Regional Corvette Champion in 1996 and has won 13 trophies in 13 shows. It was also the recipient of the Gold Award in the Concours division at the North West Corvette & Hi-Performance meet in 1996. This Corvette is a matching numbers example that is truly immaculate.
