Corvette styling was updated for 1961, which included a new cleaner rear end design with revised trim and four taillights ľ a design element which is still closely associated with Corvettes today. The new rear end was actually borrowed from the Stingray, which was not introduced until 1963. At the front of the car, the aggressive chrome teeth of the earlier models were replaced with a stylish fine mesh.

Mechanically, the 1961 Corvettes featured several upgrades that further boosted performance and in turn sales. The transmission received a new aluminum case, while an aluminum radiator was also used to help cooling in cooperation with a new temperature controlled fan.

The 1961 Chevrolet Corvette offered here was treated to a no expense spared body-off restoration performed by the early Corvette specialists at Sierra Auto Restoration in Sonara, California at the end of 2006. No part of the car was overlooked, as every component was either replaced or meticulously restored to correct factory specification. The exterior was stripped to the gel-coat then prepped and painted in Fawn Beige Metallic with Ermine White coves; a matching Fawn Beige interior and a new white top were installed to match. All factory stainless steel has been hand polished and all the chrome was replated.

The 270 horsepower 283 cubic inch V8 engine along with its original AFB dual four-barrel carburetors and the four-speed manual transmission were completely rebuilt to GM specification. The brakes, suspension, ball joints and all other steering components were replaced with new. Likewise, all wiring and the harnesses are brand new, while the original gauges and the Wonderbar radio were completely rebuilt.

As a result of the extensive restoration performed on the Corvette, and with only 50 test miles accumulated since, it looks and drives better than when it first left the showroom. The 1961 Corvettes were excellent sports cars that many collectors feel to be one of the benchmark years of Corvette design. Accordingly, they are highly collectible among marque enthusiasts, yet their universal styling and good looks endears them to just about every enthusiast of sports cars worldwide.
