It wasn't until the mid-1960s that Datsun (ne: Nissan) cars became a familiar sight buzzing around the streets of North America, yet the company as an automaker dates back to the late 1920s.

The Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. was officially established on December 26th, 1933. The company had evolved from the Kwaishinsha Motor Works of Tokyo founded in 1911 by Masujiro Hashimoto. That company built its first DAT car in 1914. DAT means “ hare ” in Japanese, while also representing the last initial of the three principals in the company.

In 1958, the Datsun 210 or Fugi-Go was announced and entered into competition. It won its class and was fourth overall in the 1958 Round Australia Mobil Gas Trial. That same year the Japanese automakers showed their wares at the Los Angeles Imported Car Show, which led to a commercial establishment in the U.S. based in L.A. and New York and the importation of the Datsun 210.

At the 1961 Tokyo Motor Show, the new SP-310 Fairlady sports car, powered by a 1488cc, 85bhp four-cylinder engine was announced. By mid-1965 the mildly restyled and more powerful Datsun 1600 roadster arrived.

Datsun was quick to prove the outstanding power and handling capabilities of its sports car. Checkered flags were taken in 1965 and 1966, and then in 1967 Connecticut Datsun dealer/racer Bob Sharp gave Datsun its first SCCA Championship in F Production behind the wheel of a 1600.

This competition spec Datsun 1600 bright red racer is completely outfitted with all the approved safety equipment. A brand new racing seat and four-point harness was installed this spring.

Its original 1600cc, four-cylinder engine features a new head and valves, rebuilt carburetors with stacks, oil cooler and pump, a competition oil pan, an electric fan and electronic ignition. This race ready motor has been fully serviced and tuned on a dyno. The chassis features new brakes on all four corners, wheel bearings and set of Sumistomo rims and tires.

Beautifully prepared, this Datsun 1600 roadster is race ready. It was thoroughly inspected only recently by D ’ Motorsports. Are you prepared to chalk up wins for its new driver in SCCA, HMS West, HMR, SVRA or VSCDA events? Addendum Please note that this vehicle is a race car and therefore offered on a Bill of Sale.
