The Devin sports cars were the creations of Bill Devin, an innovative California engineer and racer. Bill's novice racing success with a self-modified Crosley spurred him into racing with a Ferrari 212 that his close friend Phil Hill had driven in the 1952 Carrera Panamericana.

A trip to Italy and a visit to the Ferrari factory would prove to be the greatest influence on his motoring activities. It was there that Bill learned about proper Ferrari chassis setup and also began to explore the notion of converting a single seat ex-Grand Prix car into a two-seater sports car.

A convergent factor in his development in the early 50s was the maturation of fiberglass manufacturing techniques. This modern material was strong and light but best of all could be shaped using molds to produce car bodies at very low cost. Bill devised a clever modular system, supporting chassis varying from 76" in length to 106", dramatically improving versatility and marketability. Ultimately available in 27 variations, Devin bodies were built to fit cars ranging from the diminutive Crosley to the mighty Allard, most of which resembled the iconic Scaglietti-designed Ferrari Monzas.

One of the more popular chassis mated to Devin bodies was the MG. Based on an MGA chassis, this car was upgraded to Chevrolet V8 power in the early ‘ 90s almost entirely with components available in 1957 and rebuilt to the highest standards. The MGA frame was substantially reinforced to accept the V8 which is set well back into the chassis and features triple Stromberg 97 carburetors on an Edelbrock intake and matched with a Chevy four- speed transmission and disc brakes. The Devin body was comprehensively restored off the frame and a set of aluminum Borrani wire wheels were fitted.

This striking and powerful American special has seen very little use since restoration and is presented today in outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition – a perfect candidate for vintage rally or touring events, or it could be converted to race-ready specification with very little modification.
