In the late 1960s, automotive performance could only be sourced from three types of street cars: pony cars and muscle cars from America and sports cars from Europe. All of them had one thing in common, just two doors. The introduction of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL/6.3, a luxury sedan fitted with a pavement pounding V8, changed this long held standard.

When first placed on the market, enthusiast magazines were anxious to test what was often billed at the "fastest production sedan ever built". At least one publication of the day, Road & Track, agreed with the factory's summation by saying it was "merely the greatest sedan in the world."

The 300 SEL 6.3 wasn't your typical wallowing wanderer like many of its American counterparts. With a tuned suspension that provided outstanding handling combined with swift and sure braking, when the driver got behind the steering wheel of one of these cars, he knew it was going to be a ride not to be forgotten. Lightening quick acceleration from an engine as big and powerful as anything from Detroit coupled with a conservative output rating to make these the ultimate sleepers on the boulevard. Mercedes-Bens sedans were well known for being opulent, not athletic, but the 300 SEL 6.3 certainly broke the mould.

The 300 SEL 6.3 Sedan offered here has been treated to a recent restoration and benefits from a long list of upgrades and special features. In addition the cosmetic side of the restoration, which included a repaint and the installation of a new windshield, the heater and air-conditioning system were completely rebuilt, the latter converted to modern R-134a refrigerant. Critical for a comfortable but satisfying ride, the air suspension system was also completely rebuilt. Beautifully preserved original woodwork still adorns the dashboard and other interior appointments, while the instrumentation remains crisp and clear.

Considered one of the most sought after sedans from Mercedes-Benz, this 300 SEL 6.3 will be the perfect car for an early morning run up the coast or an evening drive over the hills, knowing you got to your destination just a little quicker and with a lot more style.
