Introduced in 1958, the Impala was Chevrolet ’ s new entry into the mid-priced field and was new in more ways than just styling. The advertising of the day focused just as much on performance and handling as it did on style; such was the success of the campaign that, in just a few short years, the Impala nameplate became synonymous with Chevrolet.

The striking 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible presented here is painted in the period correct Tropical Turquoise color with complementary two-tone matching seats and carpeting. Fitted with the high performance 280 horsepower optional 348 cubic inch “ Super Turbo-Thrust ” engine, three dual-barrel carburetors and a “ Power- Glide ” automatic transmission, it offers its driver ample power and speed.

The Impala is loaded with a long list of highly desirable options including power steering, power brakes, radio with rear speaker, twin rear antennas, electric clock, Kleenex dispenser, continental kit, dual exhausts, skirts, spinner wheel covers and an extra spare in the trunk, to name but a few.

The history of the Impala dates back to 1981 when a Mr. James Weiland purchased the convertible from the widow of the original owner.

She told him that the car had correct mileage, which at that time was just over 25,000 miles. When Mr. Weiland titled the car, the DMV clerk typed in 125,000 under mileage section, which went unnoticed until he received his new title in the mail. He immediately complained to the DMV but was told they assumed the car had 125,000 miles because at the time it was 23 years old. Over the next 24 years, James Weiland systematically restored the car as more than just a retirement project, but as a labor of love.

When Mr. Weiland sold the Impala in 2005, he provided a signed Affidavit attesting that the above story is true, and a copy of the Motor Vehicle Inspection paper dated the July 6, 1981 that confirms the mileage as 25,785. Both of these documents are included with the car.

Having only been driven 11,000 miles in the last 26 years, the Impala performs as an original 36,000 mile car should. Once hidden in the shadows by its popular 55-56-57 brethren, the wonderfully restored 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible offered here is much more unique; it shines in every aspect and as it was originally described in company brochures, it truly is “ excitement on wheels. ”
