The first all-new designs to emerge from Ford following the Second World War did not appear until 1949. With clean, simple lines integrating the fenders with the body and accented by a dramatic and artful bullet nose grille, they were a complete departure from the 1948 models or anything prior.

Introduced in 1950, the Custom Deluxe Crestliner two-door sedan was Ford ’ s top-of-the-line offering. Advertisements of the day declared that the Crestliner was “ an answer for those who want to combine the smart styling of a fine sports car with the practical advantages and economy of a conventional Ford Tudor Sedan ” .

Available in only two color combinations, Coronation Red Metallic and Black or Sportsman ’ s Green and Black, it was Ford ’ s only two-tone vehicle in the lineup. In addition to an L-head V8 engine, the Crestliner had several features exclusive to the model including a specially designed, gold-finished Crestliner name-plate on the front fenders, a durable vinyl top, an internally lit hood ornament, an abundance of chrome trim pieces, a special steering wheel, unique chromed wheel covers with a concentric ring of circles and rear three-rib fender skirts. The Crestliner was only offered for two model years and in 1950 only 8,703 examples were built, which accounted for just 1% of Ford ’ s total production that year.

The Coronation Red Metallic over Black Ford Crestliner offered here is a California black plate car and the recipient of a complete ground-up restoration. All the brightwork was replaced or re-plated as necessary, the top vinyl was correctly redone and the paint was professionally applied. The engine bay is highly presentable and sports an abundance of period correct hardware. The interior, with its clock, radio, heater and driver ’ s side spotlight, was given the same level of attention as the rest of the car during restoration and whenever possible, original pieces were retained. Accompanying the vehicle is the original window sticker and the original bill of sale. Having just completed a thorough mechanical inspection, which prompted the servicing of the brake system, the Crestliner is currently in impressive mechanical condition and ready to be enjoyed.
