The 1934 Ford featured refined styling cues based on the shield-shaped grille that first appeared in 1933. The subtle changes make the 1934 particularly attractive, marking an aesthetically pleasing combination of Ford ’ s classic styling in the tradition of the Model A and 1932 Model B but hinting at the evolution into rounder and smoother aerodynamic shapes that would follow. By 1934, all-weather convertibles had made serious inroads into the market for roadsters but the sporty roadster held on to its position as the vehicle of choice for young men. The roadster cost less than the convertible, making it accessible to young buyers. It weighed 85 pounds less than the convertible, too, giving it the best "performance per dollar" value in the Ford lineup.

The 1934 Roadster ’ s styling and its image have made it one of the most coveted examples of 1930s sporty cars. The Ford Flathead V8, introduced in 1932, was well-developed and making 20 more horsepower than it had upon its debut. Its gentle murmur is a constant reminder of the performance that lurks under hood and is one reason why restored examples of these sporty roadsters are so hard to find. Most of them have been sectioned, channeled and dropped into some of the most desirable street rods.

The 1934 Ford Roadster offered here is one such survivor. Fully equipped with a lengthy list of Ford options including the glovebox model Ford radio, 16 inch dress up wheels, radiator temperature indicator, bumper guards and wind wings, it is beautifully presented in Cordoba Grey with Tacoma Cream accent set off by Colonial Grain leather upholstery. A comprehensive body off the frame restoration was performed in 1990 after which it has accumulated less than 100 miles. After its dormancy, the engine, transmission and driveline were rebuilt in 1999. It includes a comprehensive collection of period literature, manuals and instruction books.

This 1934 Ford Roadster is a credit to its ownership and to the cars of Henry and Edsel Ford. It will be a proud possession, whether the new owner ’ s collection fills several barns or a single stall of a suburban garage.
