Introduced to the world in the spring of 1957 at the Paris Salon, the Bianchina was the first car to emerge from a union between Bianchi, Fiat, and Pirelli. Engineered by Dante Giacosa and designed by the German design house “ Bauhof ” , this factory, full roll-top sunroof car is essentially a Fiat 500 in disguise. With a body far more luxurious than the 500, it was commonly referred to as the “ rich man ’ s Fiat 500 ” before production ended in the 1960 model year.

The Transformable was replaced by a Cabriolet in 1960, which would remain in production until 1969 produced in three distinct series. The final iteration, the Cabriolet Series 3 F, of which only 2,750 examples were made, benefited from a succession of improvements and refinements to the earlier models. Diminutive, yet bursting with character, the Bianchina features Fiat 500 running gear (making parts availability a simple task), hand- operated windows, and relatively luxurious trim. The Bianchina Cabriolet offers a harmonious combination of understated design and utility while the factory lowered suspension of the Bianchina also contributes to a flatter ride than the base Fiat 500. The Bianchina is a capable performer with a top speed of nearly 60 miles per hour and a range of nearly 300 miles, for an estimated fuel efficiency of 50 miles per gallon.

The Bianchina is generally known throughout the somewhat eccentric micro car collector world as one of the most proportionately designed and elegant micro cars ever conceived.

Seldom does a restored Bianchina Cabriolet surface at auction on North American shores. This Cabriolet presented in blue with a brown interior has an older yet very presentable restoration, and has just had its chrome refinished. An excellent running example the Bianchina is fully prepared to flex its “ micro muscle ” here at Monterey before some of the most discerning collectors in the world.
