Such was the competition success and prominence of Carlo Abarth that he soon became a secondary constructor of special-bodied, high performance versions mainly based on Fiats.

The Fiat Abarth 750 GT coupe and its evolving variants would capture over 700 major world-class wins from 1958 – 1969. This record number of victories continues to be heralded to this day. Between 1960 and 1961, the first Abarth 850 TC (Turisimo Competizione) based on the production Fiat 600D appeared.

The four-cylinder engine was increased to 847cc and fitted with a Solex carburetor. The 850 TC version, with its modified suspension, was equipped with front Girling disc brakes that replaced the standard drums. It was the first Fiat Abarth two-door sedan to come equipped with an auxiliary radiator fitted to the front of the car. When the 68bhp 850 TC Nürburgring Corsa appeared in 1962 it was capable of a maximum speed to 93mph, a 0- 30mph in 3.5 seconds and 0-60mph in 12.4 seconds.

Further modifications by Abarth pushed the maximum speed to over 112mph, making it one of the most successful competition Abarth models. Known for its performance and superior road holding in such grueling events as the famous Nürburgring, the Fiat Abarth went on to become one of the most legendary little sedans ever built.

The 850 TC Nürburgring Corsa offered here was recently painted in the spectacular green, white and red colors of the Italian flag. The modified bodywork is typical of a period vintage racing Abarth. Below the open-style rear hood lays a fully detailed engine sporting the performance additions so characteristic of Abarth.

A new, updated, all-racing interior of red, white and black has been fitted in the car along with new floor mats and door panels. Additional instrumentation, safety and modifications for competing in vintage racing, rallying and annual runs in Mille Miglia-type events make this Italian pocket-rocket ready for road or track exercising.

Built for squeezing the utmost performance out of this blistering rear-engine bambino, the 850 TC Nürburgring Corsa still has all of its inbred charm, while the Abarth ’ s slight competition patina only enhances its original styling cues and factory fittings.
