With the arrival of the MGA roadster in 1955, many MG aficionados were taken aback by the fact that the prewar look of the company's sports cars had been so dramatically altered. The all-new MGA had a streamlined, aerodynamic body that was right up to the minute in terms of styling and design. Management at MG had decided that the old XPAG power plant had seen better days and replaced it with a much more modern B-series engine, which had made its debut in the Magnette saloon.

As early as 1951 however, marque enthusiasts were given a taste of upcoming models when George Phillips drove a re-bodied TD Midget at Le Mans. The factory built him a car following several notable wins in his own TC fitted with a lightweight racing body.

The MGA was quickly ushered in. But even before the official launch of the MGA in 1955, three aluminum bodied prototypes of the sports car were entered into Le Mans and were quite successful, finishing fifth and sixth in their class. So when the MGA was launched shortly afterwards, the car was already one with pedigree, ensuring immediate acceptance by fans of the marque and the motoring public. The introduction of the coupe must be regarded as a sign of the times when enthusiasts were demanding a great comfort at speed and added protection from the elements in the ô Grand Touring ö tradition.

The MGA 1600 Coupe offered here has undergone some recent cosmetic and mechanical restoration work, which consisted of much more than just a full tune-up and a complete detailing. The engine was fully serviced, the brake system has been replaced and the suspension system was overhauled. The interior carpeting and upholstery are new, as is the windshield.

The MGA is complete with wire wheels and a highly capable four-speed gearbox that offers smooth shifting for the fantastic 80hp engine. Presented in red with a black interior featuring red piping, this British classic runs and drives very well and will offer its next owner unparalleled fun for the money
