Pontiac, like all American automotive manufacturers, was involved in the war effort until 1945. Accordingly, when they introduced their new line for 1946 just as every other manufacturer did, it was essentially a 1942 model with a new grille, fenders and trim. However, they didn ĺ t have to do much, as the demand was also at its highest point ever, with newly returning servicemen and their families buying anything they could get their hands on.

Offered for the first time following WWII, the 1947 Streamline Woodie Station Wagon was available with either a six or an eight-cylinder engine, however the eight was king in the line and would eventually outsell the six for the first time. Pontiac also offered a Convertible, Coupe and Sedan, however, the Woodie Wagon was the most expensive and was available for the price of $2,282 - nearly $500 more than the convertible!

The 1947 Pontiac Woodie Wagon pictured here is finished in green and has a light brown colored interior. It is largely original, but has received some restoration and maintenance as needed over the years. One of the unique aspects of the Pontiac is its ability to comfortably seat eight adult passengers.

When the vendor was searching for rare additions to his Woodie collection in 1991, he found this example in California still wearing its original black plate. Overall, this is a rare Pontiac Woodie that is modestly priced and will carry with it the added distinction of being one of the most desirable postwar Woodies built by the General Motors division. In an age when Town and Country Woodies often overshadow their counterparts, it is a welcome change to feature an example such as this rare Pontiac.
