You won't find many 1957 Chevys cooler than this one. Dazzling in black with a powerful and reliable LS1 V8 under the hood, it has been built to show, yet drives like a modern muscle car. Tastefully modified, it retains all the styling cues that make the '57s so iconic, but done to standards they just couldn't have imagined when it was built. If you're going to paint a car black, it needs to be straight, so there's no question that the guys who built this car spent weeks working on the vintage steel to get it to look this good. You can see from the reflections in our photo booth that there are no ripples or waves in the panels, even the big ones like the doors and quarters. Gaps are excellent, and there's something about the way the doors close on cars of this vintage that you can't find anywhere today. It's a solid, precise feeling that suggests the engineers were at the top of their game when they designed these cars. All the chrome and stainless has been restored, too, from the big grille with chrome "Dagmars" to the beautifully polished stainless on the flanks and around the windows. The contrast between the spectacular paint and show-quality bright work is simply breathtaking in person, and the work was probably staggeringly expensive. The interior more than lives up to the promises made by the body. Black leather highlighted with red accents gives the '57 a bad boy personality, and like the paint, it has been done to an extremely high standard. The original bench seat sports fresh foam and new covers in an authentic-looking pattern, while the door panels are sculpted in the finest hot rod tradition. The original dashboard has been retained and restored, but the original gauges have been replaced by white-faced pieces from Classic Instruments. You'll also note that the column shifter has been cleverly modified to show all four gears of the 4L60E automatic transmission, and a modern stereo system lives in the original radio's location in the dash. Other features include heat and ice cold A/C by Vintage Air, seat belts, and a cool billet steering wheel with retro styling that fits perfectly in this split personality Chevy. Power comes from an aluminum LS1 from a 2002 Pontiac Trans AM. Rated at 305 horsepower, everyone knew these engines were severely under-rated by the factory, especially since identical motors were in Corvettes making 345 horsepower. At any rate, this engine is one of General Motors' home runs, because it's powerful, smooth, and reliable, making it the ideal traveling partner for this lovely '57. The plastic intake has been painted gloss black to match the body, while Corvette style plastic covers hide the ignition coils and carry traditional crossed-flag emblems that Chevy used to indicated fuel injection. All the power accessories remain intact, from the A/C to the power steering and power brakes, making this a car that is daily driver reliable, and show car beautiful. Underneath, the chassis is nicely finished in black, with a custom exhaust system, the aforementioned 4-speed automatic, and a 10-bolt rear on a set of lowered leaf springs. A custom-made dual exhaust system gives it just the right rumble, and four-wheel discs handle the braking. Traditional American Racing Torque Thrust wheels carry newer Michelin radials. This is a beautifully built, fully sorted '57 that could not possibly be duplicated for the asking price. Heck, even finding a clean, unmolested '57 two-door coupe is virtually impossible anymore. Best of all, it's a no-compromises build, a car that is reliable enough to drive every day, and beautiful enough to take home trophies. This is a seriously nice car. Call today!
