Known History

AMERICAN ART DECO

By 1937 Chrysler was ready to dump the Airflow, salesmen had a much easier time selling the conventional styled airstream models. New bodies were used on the non-airflow Chryslers of 1937, and forward their cowls was a frontal attempt at streamlining, with it’s high narrow prow bulging out at the top far above their small grills sat headlamps on stalks high on the radiator shell sides. With its lines along the hood side sweeping slightly towards the front the 1937 Chrysler Imperial was called “Forward Reaching Styling.”

Sporting a butterscotch / tan canvas convertible top with matching interior this car with its powerful 8 cylinder in line engine and three speed manual overdrive transmission with floor shifter is a classic. The instruments have been set in a wood grained dash, which carry an amazing art deco theme with all gauges grouped directly in front of the driver, clearly visible through the branching spokes of the steering wheel.

Production for the 1937 Chrysler Imperial Eight convertible with rumble seat was 225, at production this car was very limited. There are five that are known to exist today, making this car a very rare find, especially in its pristine condition.

Everything works.

The car is garaged in Quogue, LI, NY.
