The body has undergone a complete restoration. Only 1,423 GT 500s were produced in 1968, and this Shelby is only 1 of 90 ordered in 1968 with factory A/C. The 428-4V, four-speed powertrain will lay you back in the seat, it's truly an amazing machine. The engine and transmission have just undergone a complete overhaul. The existing engine block was not the original nor from the same period. The seller purchased a 1967 428 block block code C6ME-A which was located in Greensboro, NC. Code numbers on the heads C80E-6090-N indicate they are the original heads. The block, heads, connecting rods were acid cleaned, magna-fluxed and reconditioned. Cylinders were over-bored 0.030. New Arias pistons, pin bushings and rings were installed. Exhaust seats were replaced with hardened valve seats and all stem bushings were replaced. Replaced all shaft bearings and installed a new MAHLE camshaft. New rocker arm shafts, valve springs, hydraulic lifters, push rods, timing chain and gears were installed. A new flywheel SFI - and clutch assembly SPEC - were installed and all rotating pieces were balanced. The engine overhaul is completely documented. During the engine overhaul the engine compartment and chassis was re-detailed. Mr. Shelby has autographed the steering wheel cushion. This car is included in the 1997 Shelby American Registry, page 968, #03054.For further information or to view additional photos, click here
