This 1969 Camaro is a real RS, and what's even more unusual is that it hasn't been dressed up like a fake SS. Instead, it's a clean, usable car that packs some serious blasting powder under the hood in the form of a 383 cubic inch stroker motor. A lot of money has been spent recently upgrading the interior, and the result is a fast street car that attracts a lot of attention anywhere it goes. The RS, or Rally Sport package was available on any Camaro, from the lowliest six-cylinder grocery-getter to the hairiest big block brawlers. The most noteworthy feature, of course, is the hidden headlights, which give the front end a unique look that sets it apart from the standard '69 Camaros. Finished in original code 72 Hugger Orange with code B black stripes and a black vinyl top, it is both aggressive and instantly recognizable to anyone with even a passing familiarity with cars. Complementing the aggressive paint scheme is the optional trunk spoiler, which was more often found on the high-performance Z/28s and SS cars. There isn't much chrome or trim on this Camaro, but the front and rear bumpers are very nice, the stainless gills ahead of the rear wheels are in good condition, and all the badges are correct, although the "350" badge on the front fenders is about 33 cubic inches shy of the mark. The black bucket seat interior is mostly new, with the current owner having spent a considerable amount of time and money to get it right. The seats feature new foam under the fresh covers, which are better detailed than most of the reproductions you see, although the headrests appear to be original. The black carpets, headliner, dash pad, and even the rear package tray are all recently installed and look great. An Auto Meter Ultra Lite tachometer has been affixed to the steering column in true hot-rodder fashion and a trio of smaller gauges was added under the dash on the passenger's side to help keep an eye on oil pressure, temperature and voltage. All the factory gauges all appear to be in original condition and work properly, although we can't say for certain that the mileage is correct. The center console is a nice option, and houses a B&M shifter for the automatic transmission underneath. Now about that stroker motor. Long regarded as one of the sweetest-running of all small blocks, the 383 loves to rev but makes insane amounts of torque at the same time. This one is put together with all the good stuff, including a Holley intake, 4-barrel carburetor and aluminum heads, plus a MSD ignition system. All told, it belts out an estimated 400 horsepower on pump gas and sounds amazing rumbling through a set of Flowmaster mufflers. The air cleaner lid sports a reproduction Turbo Jet 350 decal and uses a modern K&N filter for better flow, while a set of long tube headers manage the spent gasses. Polished aluminum valve covers add a little underhood flash, while power steering and brakes make it easy to drive. The automatic transmission is a willing partner behind the potent small block, snapping through the gears fast enough to chirp the tires at full throttle thanks to the Posi unit in the rear end. The brake system has been fully rebuilt, including lines, hoses, rotors, drums, shoes, and pads. And there aren't any wheels on the market that look better than the factory 15-inch Rallys on this car, which wear a set of BFGoodrich T/A radials. If you've been watching early Camaro prices spiral out of control recently, this car should come as a pleasant surprise. A real Hugger Orange RS sporting a built small block and a restored interior-does it get any better?
