While everyone was going nuts over the 427s, smart buyers made their move into the 1978 Pace Cars and today are finally seeing some returns on their investment. Low-mileage examples like this one that shows just 32,449 original miles are the perfect place to park some cash for a few years, and no CD or mutual fund is this much fun. That's original paint on the luscious Corvette curves, and 1978 was a revolutionary year for Chevy's fantastic sports car. The hatchback rear window gives it a brand-new look, and the air dams and rear spoiler on the Pace Car make it look plenty aggressive. That two-tone paint job with the red pinstripe is instantly identifiable, and this is one of the rare Pace Cars that did not have the door decals installed by the dealer, giving it a somewhat lower-profile look relative to its siblings. More importantly, this one doesn't have any damage to the common areas: the chin spoiler hasn't been scraped on steep driveways, the rocker panels haven't been sandblasted by the tires, and nobody has been using the bumpers to parallel park. If you want an ultra-clean Pace Car that you can drive while it appreciates, this is an excellent choice. The same holds true inside, where the silver leather interior is nicely preserved. That's the original OEM workmanship, from the stitching on the seats to the carpets, and all of it shows only minor signs of use. The Corvette was definitely a futuristic place to be, and in an era that embraced flash and glitz, the design is an ideal complement. This one is also loaded with just about every option Chevy could think of, including A/C, power windows, power locks, a tilt/telescope wheel, and a novel AM/FM/cassette stereo, which was cutting-edge in 1978. A pair of aftermarket cupholders has been added to the center console to make it more pleasant to cruise, and matching floor mats have preserved the carpets. More recently, fresh T-top weatherstripping has been installed, so it seals up tight and cruises with nary a whisper of wind noise from outside. The engine is Chevy's #'s matching 350 cubic inch L48 small block, which made a respectable 185 horsepower in 1978. As a low-mileage car, the engine bay is what you would expect, finished like a road map for future restorers looking for absolute authenticity. Even details like the corrugated intake hose remain intact and in remarkable condition. Obviously someone has loved this car since it was new (not unusual with Pace Car replicas), and it drives like a brand-new Corvette. Underneath, you won't find any rust or damage, although the exhaust system has been upgraded to a true dual system that undoubtedly adds horsepower. The brakes have also been recently serviced, and it wears fresh 255/60/15 Goodyear white-letter performance radials on the original polished aluminum wheels. Don't miss another opportunity to pick up a low-mile Pace Car. Arguably the high point of '70s design, it captures the era perfectly. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
