Chassis 3044, one of only 83 built was delivered new to the United States and was originally fitted with a Chrysler Hemi coupled with a three speed Lincoln gearbox. 3044 ran in SCCA events in the late Fifties and early 1960 by Chuck Friedrich of Golden, Colorado. Friedrich sold the car in 1961 to John Dawson Jr. who owned the car until this year! We spoke with Mr Dawson who remembers flying out to Colorado to buy the car and driving back to his home in New York in a very cold October. When John Dawson bought 3044 Friedrich had already installed a lighter Corvette motor with a four speed Corvette gearbox. Dawson wanted to use 3044 for road use therefore he removed the roll bar and braces and installed more comfortable seats. He tells us that soon after purchase he embarked upon extensive restoration work taking the car down to the bare chassis and stripping the body and painting it in the current black finish. In 2003 chassis 3044 was subject to 12,000 dollar overhaul and again in December 2010 a similar amount was spent prior to its sale in January of this year.A highly eligible and competitive entrant for many of the most prestigious events including Goodwood, Monaco and Le Mans Classic at a fraction of the cost of its peers such as Jaguar C-types and Aston Martin DB3S’s. The car is EC taxes paid and could be supplied with a UK road registration number.
