3-time platinum winning example with tools, books, two sets of 9-inch wheels

Built in April of 1971 for the US Market, this Daytona was finished in its current color combination and equipped with air conditioning and power windows at the factory. It was delivered new to Modern Classic Motors of Reno, Nevada and sold to the first owner, Mr. Bloomfield of Palm Springs, CA.

The car passed through two subsequent owners before being purchased by Mr. Triolo of Gilroy, CA with about 15,000 miles. Triolo owned the car until 1994 and showed the car in FOCUSA meets winning 2nd in class at Carmel. The car remained in the San Francisco bay area was offered for sale in 1998 by Ferrari of Los Gatos with just 17,000 miles. Ferrari of Los Gatos sold the car to Kevin Kelly who sold the car to Fantasy Junction in 1999 with just 17,980 miles. Fantasy Junction sold the car twice in quick succession and a third time to the current (6th) owner in 2002. At this time the actual mileage was only 19,576. Today the car has 28,000 documented miles, and is in outstanding condition.

The current owner has brought this fine example up to platinum concours trim, achieving 99.5/100 points at Cavalino Classic at Concorso Italiano in August of 2003. Platinum awards were also earned at the Palo Alto Concours in 2003, and again at the National Ferrari Concours in August of 2004.

In keeping with concours standards, s/n 14233 is in exceptionally nice condition cosmetically. The paintwork, done many years ago, remains outstanding with just a handful of very minor use marks about the car which are almost unnoticeable without critical inspection. As correct for some 1971 year model cars, the headlight area is painted silver. The body is straight, with excellent gaps at the doors, hood, and trunk. The bottoms of the doors have very minor deflection in the reflection of the paint (only noticeable from the underside of the car). All the brightwork is outstanding, as are all the emblems. The side and rear windows appear to be original, as does the windshield (it has the correct logo), although there are some air bubbles inside the windshield glass. The car sits on beautifully restored Cromodora wheels with extremely desirable and almost impossible to find 9`` rears which gives the car an aggressive masculine stance. New Michelin XWX period correct tires are fitted.

The interior is still trimmed in black leather with Daytona red inserts with grey carpets as it left the factory. The carpets are like new, while the balance of the interior is in extremely nice condition, with a light `broken in` patina. There are no significant marks of flaws about the cockpit. The dash has been recovered in a fabric nearly identical to original `mouse hair` material, maintaining the original weave. The door panels look to be original and are extremely clean. The side windows retain the original `fuzzies`, and the wing window latches are still attached. A period correct Voxon 8-track radio is present, with matching antenna. The door jams and rocker sills are both sparkling clean.

The engine compartment has the look of a fully restored car and is truly up to national platinum concours standards. This example retains the correct Dinoplex ignition boxes, hydraulic hood supports, smog pump, window washer bag, and period style battery and battery hold down. All the correct finishes are applied where appropriate and the results are stunning.

Like the engine compartment, the underside is beautifully detailed and restored for show. All four corners have rebuilt shocks with refinished suspension arms. The engine and driveline are both sparking clean, as the engine and transaxle do not leak oil. A fairly new Ansa exhaust system is fitted which produces that wonderful V12 exhaust note we all know and love. There is no evidence of damage repair to the underside.

Mechanically, the car is superb. All the gauges work, including the clock. The A/C blows cold, and both windows work. The suspension has the tight feel of a low mileage car. The engine starts easily, revs smooth and produces excellent power. The transaxle is smooth and deliberate. Second gear syncro is very good once warm and the clutch operates as it should. The brakes stop the car effectively, and overall, the car is a joy to pilot.

Recent work includes new clutch in 2005, replacement of several suspension bushings in 2003, and a valve adjustment and carburetor tune by Patrick Ottis at 25,500 miles. The half shafts have just been refurbished with four new CV boots and one new CV joint. At the time of the most recent ownership change the compression readings were 185-178 lbs across all 12 cylinders.

With the car comes the complete tool roll in excellent original condition with tools, jack, and light bulb holder, manual pack complete with a warranty card, Veglia clock instructions, and dash cloth, the Cromodora spare, and second set of Borrani wires with hard to find 9`` rears, a concours book outlining the cars history from new and its concours achievements, a factory issued Heritage Certificate, and a wonderful file of receipts relating to mechanical work done and ownership documentation from the last two owners.

This is an absolute stud of a car, and likely the very best Ferrari 365 GTB/4 `Daytona` on the market today.
