Racers enjoy the idea that "racing improves the breed", but rarely does it do so as quickly and directly as with the Sunbeam Alpine Harrington LeMans coupe. It was added to Sunbeam's product line in October 1961, just months after a similarly bodied Alpine special captured the prestigious Index of Thermal Efficiency and 16th place overall at the 24 Hours of LeMans in June. The fiberglass fastback roof was added to modified production Alpines by Thomas Harrington Limited and fewer that 250 examples were built, most for export to the U.S. This Sunbeam Alpine Harrington LeMans was restored in red with black leather upholstery piped in red a few years ago and has seen limited use since then. It rides on silver painted centerlock wire wheels and was updated during restoration with a later 1,725cc Series V Alpine engine, a Series V chassis crossmember, stainless steel exhaust and an attractive real walnut burl dashboard panel that complements the woodrim steering wheel. This is a highly unusual and very attractive limited production Sunbeam that will be a valued participant in road tours and particularly appreciated in British car events. It shows well and should be an exceptional performer on the road.
