Here's the bottom line on this 1971 Chevelle: it's a really nice car. With a fuel-injected Corvette L98 under the hood, a gorgeous Lemans Blue paint job, and a cool custom interior, it's a great all-around performer that will fit right in on the show field, too. With so many garden-variety Chevelles out there, it's really refreshing to see one that is just a little outside the ordinary. There are a lot of guys who think the '71 Chevelle is the best looking of the bunch, myself included. Add in the Lemans Blue paint and the unique light gray SS stripes, and you have a car that won't be overlooked despite its subtle combination. The bodywork looks really clean on this one, and the unadorned flanks are straight and free of ripples and blemishes, which is a tribute to both the workmanship and the care this car has received since it was finished. A cowl induction hood makes it a little aggressive, but nothing outside the factory specifications has been done-it's very much the way Chevy might have built it in 1971. Chrome is nicely done, and the blacked-out grille gives it an aggressive look, and I'm pleased to see that this one hasn't been dressed up like a fake SS, instead letting the clean shape do most of the talking. The black vinyl roof helps, too, and has been professionally installed with no wrinkles or apparent rust hiding underneath. The original bucket seat interior is largely stock, save for the two-tone leather seating surfaces that match the paint. Showing virtually no wear and exceptional workmanship, this fabulous interior is a great place to spend your weekends. The center console features what might be the coolest shifter ever devised by the guys at GM, and the original gauge cluster has been replaced by a custom piece full of Auto Meter Ultralights. There's also a wood-rimmed Grant steering wheel, a powerful JVC audio system with speakers in the kick panels and rear parcel shelf, as well as controls for the A/C and heat underneath. Stock carpets, door panels, and headliner round out an interior you'll be proud to call your own. The trunk is completely stock, and includes a new mat and a full-sized spare tire. Power comes from a Corvette L98, which is the ideal powerplant in a cruiser like a Chevelle. Making big torque, it moves this big blue coupe with real authority and a snarling exhaust note leaves no doubts as to its performance intentions. With thousands on the road, these engines are bulletproof, and will deliver performance for years and years with only routine maintenance. Everything under the hood is as OEM as possible, from the accessories to the engine management system, so it drives like a modern car with no fussing. There are a few dress-up items, including a chrome alternator and radiator shroud, but I appreciate the builder's desire to make it look like the factory might have if they were in the business of building fuel-injected Chevelles. The transmission is a matching 700R4 4-speed automatic from a Corvette, with quick reflexes and a deep overdrive for easy long distance cruising. The chassis is very solid and clean, but not detailed for show, which means you can drive this one without worries about dirt and the occasional rain shower. Cross-drilled disc brakes up front provide confident stopping power, and thanks to a set of custom springs, it has just the perfect stance. Rounding out this handsome A-body is a set of 17-inch Billet Specialties wheels wearing 245/45/17 front and 255/55/17 rear tires. This car is every bit as cool as it seems, and the workmanship throughout is top quality. The L98 is a great choice for a resto-mod like this, delivering reliable performance and modern ease of use. There aren't many original 1971 Chevelles that run as well as this one, thanks to the wonders of fuel injection. With overdrive and upgraded suspension, it's a fabulous long-distance cruiser, and when it shows up at a show, you can proudly display the spectacular paint and interior. Everything works, making this a car that needs exactly nothing to hit the road this summer. And yes, it really is as nice as it looks in photos-come down and see it in person, and I guarantee you'll want to take it home. Call today!
