Known History

This car has been featured in two magazines: Hemmings Classic Car October 2005 and Prewar Auto Notes May 2008. It's won Best of Class at 2005 Palos Verdes Concourse and a few other local events.

The restoration on this delightful car was started in the Mid 60s and was completed in 2000 through four owners who each did a different part. Restoration records since the 60s are available it's an interesting read since back in the 70s, people still typed letters and sent them in the mail rather than phone: nearly every conversation is captured.

The car is perfect. It needs nothing. It runs perfect. It can sit for months and will usually starts on the second crank.

Hupmobile made cars from 1909 through 1941. The Mod 20 was made between 1909 and 1911 when they switched to the Mod 32. Only 1909 and 1910 were made as runabouts. In 1911 they started making a touring car and put doors on the two seater.

Total production of these vehicles was approximatey 5,000 of these runabouts. There are probably less than 100 left in the world.

Compare that to the Model T where 15 million were made, this is a rare car.

Unlike the Model T, this car has a traditional transmission in that it has a clutch and two forward and one reverse gear. The Model T used a three pedal setup with a spark advance and hand throttle that takes some practice to get use to. The Hupmobile used a Bosch magnito that didn't require a manual advance mechanism so you can step on the throttle and go without having to make spark adjustments to the spark.

It's a great car to drive and fast for its vintage.
