The Porsche 911 is perhaps the most timeless design ever seen in motoring history. As soon as it was launched in September 1963 it dominated its class and today, albeit very much more developed, it continues to attract adulation from enthusiasts and the motoring press alike. In motor racing the 911, in increasingly modified form, also remains a force to be reckoned with and the introduction of the Global Endurance GT Series saw the formation of two classes, GT1 and GT2. The latter was intended for cars based more closely on production models, although one is unlikely to encounter such a car on public roads.

This very special GT2-R was built in 2004 by highly respected Porsche tuning and racing specialist PSI Motorsport of Thiminster in Belgium. To date only 11 of these GT2-Rs have been completed, each to a different specification as requested by the buyer - and the specification of this car is set to impress even the most jaded Porsche enthusiast. Based on an original factory Porsche 996, PSI has gone to great lengths to modify nearly every single aspect of the car. Aerodynamics have been improved with the fitment of front and rear fender flares and carbon-fibre/Kevlar front nose, rear spoiler and under-floor diffusers, while the interior has been completely stripped and fitted with a roll cage welded over multiple points, the seat has been replaced with a Recaro item with six-point seat harness and a quick-release steering wheel replaces the original item; Macralon windows in the doors and at the rear further help to reduce weight. For quick pit stops, an air-jack system with two cylinders in the rear and one in the front of the car has been fitted, and a 100 litre FT3 safety fuel cell, with quick refuelling system, has also been installed.

Power is provided by an uprated, twin turbocharged Porsche 3.6 litre engine which, without air restrictors, produces something in the region of a mind-blowing 720bhp. This huge amount of power is transmitted via an ALCON triple plate racing clutch and sequential six speed Hollinger gearbox to an adjustable limited slip differential (split 40/60%) and GT3-RSR drive shafts, all of which further adds to the impressive specification of this racing Porsche. The rose-jointed suspension comprises an optimised McPherson strut front axle with a multi-link rear axle, while the one-piece ATS, PSI-specified wheels measure 10inx18in at the front and 13inx18in at the rear. Included in the price of this awesome and powerful racing Porsche is a professional instruction book, detailing the electronic setting-up of the car, from the qualified engineers who built it.

With a price tag of 416,000 including VAT when new, this nearly new racing Porsche must represent an outstanding bargain. Not for the faint hearted.
