Known History

With its low belt line, extended windows and small size, the Mercedes 230 SL gives an undeniable sensation of lightness. This was the impression of those that saw it for the first time at the 1963 Salon de Genève. One other detail that attracted the attention of the visitors was that the hardtop is slightly concave in shape, a previously unseen aspect that earned this car the nickname of the ?pagoda?. The original style is the brainchild of a French stylist, the brilliant Paul Bracq. When first produced, the car came with a 2.3-litre injection, being available in a 2.5-litre version from 1966 onwards. However, it was with the 280 SL, first presented in late 1967, that the model founds its true dimensions; the six cylinders offered a level of flexibility completely in keeping with the touristic purpose of this elegant vehicle. Well designed and constructed with the quality for which Mercedes is well known, it promises a comfortable ride with every opportunity to benefit from the joys of a convertible without suffering the discomforts of a Spartan vehicle.

The 280 SL presented by us was delivered new in Switzerland, and it was there that the current owner, an Iranian, acquired it during the 1970s. This magnificent 280 SL, exported by the owner to his country for use for pleasure at his secondary home and concealed in a basement during the Iranian revolution, has recently been repatriated to France. Black in colour with a mixed-colour interior, it is also equipped with a black hardtop, manual gearbox and assisted power-steering. The car is fitted with air conditioning system. Splendidly preserved in its original state, this car is definite value for money and choosing it will be an act of reason as well as passion.
