Known History

A descendant of the magnificent Silver Shadow which first appeared in 1965, the Silver Spur was launched in 1980 as a long wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit which appeared at the same time. Powered by the same V8 engine that was in the last Rolls-Royce to employ a separate chassis, the Silver Cloud III, the car featured all round independent suspension as on the first Shadow, and benefitted from developments to the chassis seen in the 1976 Shadow II: assisted rack and pinion steering, electronic ignition, improvements to the front suspension, wider low-profile tyres. All these modifications improved the handling and performance of the 2-tonne car whose comfort was legendary.

The Silver Spirit heralded the introduction of a wider and lower body incorporating a larger area of glass and a lower radiator grille. The new car also had improved self-levelling rear suspension which gave it both a greater level of comfort and more dynamic handling at high speed. The Silver Spur version offered a larger rear passenger compartment.

The present owner bought this July 1987 Silver Spur from its original US owner in 1994, and it has covered 95,000 miles. It is in good original condition, finished in black with gold coach line and black vinyl roof. The interior is in good condition and the black leather upholstery displays a nice patina. With tinted windows, foot rests and picnic tables in the rear compartment, the car comes with its original toolkit, user and service manuals, French registration document (Carte Grise) and contr˘le technique (French MOT). There is a comprehensive file of bills detailing all work carried out between 2006 and December 2010 and a technical appraisal from February 2007.
