Powered by Packard's big 384 cubic inch inline eight, the Sixth Series 1929 640 Custom Eight offered power, performance and prestige in the ultimate year of the Roaring Twenties. Today it is recognized as a Classic Car Club of America Full Classic (tm), a modern measure of its stature among its contemporaries. Convertible coupes such as this are among the most enjoyable and adaptable of classics for tours and events, with tight-fitting tops and rollup windows. This example is an older restoration which evidences continuing, consistent care and attention. Presented in two attractive shades of green with black fenders, it has brown leather upholstery and a tan cloth top. Features include wire wheels painted in the lighter green of the body, dual sidemounts with mirrors, spotlights, chrome tire lock rings, wide whitewall tires, a rumble seat, luggage trunk on a folding rack and a door on the side for a golf bag or small luggage. It has been fitted with aftermarket overdrive for relaxed cruising at today's highway speeds, a valuable addition that heightens its appeal to modern collectors. Its restoration has held up superbly. It is a car that can be toured all day and shown with justifiable pride at the end of a run.
