Known History

1957 Chevrolet Corvette Fuel Injected Roadster

s/n E57S104314 Eng. No. F5I5EL

Black with Silver Coves and Red Interior

Among the first generation Corvettes, 1957 was a very special year. The Corvette had received its first facelift the year before, which dramatically enhanced the success of the model, which had not been terribly successful up until that point. 1957 was marked by the introduction of optional 283cid fuel-injected V8, which had the distinguished honor of being the first car to break the 1 horsepower per cubic inch mark. There were numerous other desirable options introduced around this time including tachometer, electric windows and 4-speed transmission. In total, just 1040 fuel injected Corvettes were built in 1957, and only 756 of those were rated 283hp.

The s/n decodes as follows:

57- Year model

S- St. Louis, Mo

104314-Production number

The following numbers appear on the various components of the car:

Engine block: On the driver’s side, at the rear, a casting number reads “3731548”. On the passenger’s side, at the front, a stamping reads “F5I5EL”.

Transmission: A casting number on the passenger’s side of main case, reads “T10-1B” and below “W.G. DIV W-1”. A casting on the tail shaft of case, on the passenger’s side reads “T10-7D”.

Distributor: On the driver’s side there is a tag reading Anderson Ind. Delco-Remy. Model number “1110908”, and serial number “7D17”

Fuel Injection unit: On the driver’s side it is tag with serial number “1854”, part number “7014522”. On the other side of the fuel injection unit there is a stamped number reading 7014522 1854.

Generator: On the driver’s side there is a tag reading Anderson Ind. Delco-Remy. Model number 1102043 with serial number 7D30.

This particular car is a superbly documented example that runs absolutely beautifully, with wonderfully set up fuel injection.

More to come.
