Style never goes out of fashion, which might explain why the 1955-56-57 Chevrolets remain as popular today as they were when they were new-perhaps more so. Next to the convertibles, the car to own is the Bel Air hardtop, and this lovely 1956 Bel Air presents in its original-and quite rare-Onyx Black over Crocus Yellow color combination. Striking is one word for it, and it's a very refreshing change from the more familiar red, black, and turquoise Chevys you see at all the shows. Packing its original 265 cubic inch V8 and a bunch of options, this one drives and shows extremely well. Starting with a straight car with all its original sheetmetal intact, it's easy to create a stunner like this. The paint is excellent, but not so over-restored that it clashes with the largely original interior. I'm especially fond of the contrasting black finish, especially on the top, which on most combinations was a lighter color. And thanks to the striking Bel Air trim which outlines the paint break, the black paint really pops against the Crocus Yellow. The bodywork was professionally refinished, so there are no ripples or waves in the panels, and the final finish received a quality cut and buff to produce a high shine that endures to this day. If you're a fan of accessories, a set of fender skirts is available with this car (please call us for more details). The chrome and stainless appear to be original, as evidenced by the State Farm decals on the rear bumper that have to be 40 or 50 years old. If that's the case, this is one very well preserved Chevy! The matching black and yellow cloth and vinyl interior is original, and is just more proof of this car's exceptional care over the past five-and-a-half decades. To be honest, the front seat is almost too nice to be original, but the colors match exactly with similar age-appropriate patina, so it's likely that they are indeed factory equipment. The door panels are definitely original and nicely preserved, and the back seat looks like it has seen very few passengers during its lifetime. The dashboard is truly exceptional, with crisp gauges, clear lenses, and bright trim that seems to defy the years and looks every bit as good as some restored cars we've seen. Mileage shows 63,679, which the owner believes is accurate and the condition of the car certainly bolsters that claim. The simple trunk features a rubber mat and a full-sized spare on a restored steel wheel painted to match the body. Under the hood you'll find the original 265 cubic inch V8 with the optional Power Pack, which raised power to 205 thanks to a special high-lift cam, intake manifold, and four-barrel carburetor. You'll also note that this Bel Air carries factory power steering (mounted to the back of the original generator!) and power brakes, both of which were relatively unusual and extremely rare factory options in 1956, but much appreciated here. The engine has obviously been freshened, and wears fresh Chevy Orange paint that stands out vividly in the satin black engine bay. The two-speed PowerGlide transmission was apparently addressed at the same time, and it runs superbly today. There's a new dual exhaust system with glass pack mufflers and bright polished tips under the rear bumpers, giving the small block a performance sound. The entire car is extremely tight with no squeaks or rattles, and it rolls on a set of new whitewall radials on the original wheels with full wheel covers. With a very cool color combination, a ton of originality, and the Power Pack enhanced V8 under the hood, this Bel Air hardtop is a wonderful machine to show and drive. Looking this car over, it's easy to believe the mileage claims are correct, and there are no secrets hiding underneath. Please come in and have a look at this one in person, because the photos just don't do it justice. Just be prepared: as soon as you see it, you'll fall in love. Call today!
