Cortese – Bath are honoured to present one of Ferrari’s best road cars to date, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. For great value supercar prowess this particular 599 GTB really hits the mark! At £112,995 it is the cheapest in the country and still looks and feels like new. First seen by the public at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show as the successor to the 575M the car was greeted with great interest. It had a lot to live up to, much due to the name Ferrari had decided to place behind its designated numerals. “GTB” stands for Gran Turismo Berlinetta, after the most famous Berlinetts’ Ferrari ever built. “Fiorano” lends its name to the test track Ferrari uses to hone their cars abilities for both track and road versions, usually given to those cars that have the upgraded handling pack. “599” is simply the engines displacement of 5999cc divided by 10 for simplicity! Speaking of which, the 599’s engine packs some real grunt. Sporting the now acclaimed Ferrari V12 and producing 620 bhp at 7600 rpm and a robust max torque of 448 lb-ft (608 Nm) at 5600 rpm the 599 GTB provided phenomenal power to its occupants, who were able to navigate through the gears via the new Sequential F1 Superfast transmission, capable of shifting up and down the 6 gears in 100 miliseconds. This saw the needle reaching and by-passing 60mph in a prompt 3.7 seconds and onwards to a maximum 205 mph top speed. Stopping the two tonne 599 required some serious brakes, however this 599 GTB benefits from the additional cost option of Carbon Ceramic disk brakes. Driving the 599 GTB Fiorano couldn’t be easier or any more pleasurable. With the main purpose of being a Grand Tourer the 599 GTB comes up trumps. The front-mid engine construction meant that 85% of the 599’s un-laden weight is positioned behind the front axles, providing better handling and crash safety to its occupants. Luxury was stepped up a notch or two, with the passenger surrounded in leather hide and the driver a combination of Carbon Fibre and Leather. Satellite Navigation is provided with extra prompts appearing in the colour screen set within the dash, which also doubles as a display for other information such as oil temp, pressure, mileage, etc. This presents a no nonsense and clean dial set up. Carbon Sport seats with electric adjustments not only look the part but also feels the part. Not too hard or restrictive, they hug reassuringly around your torso and provide just enough protection from the renowned British B-Roads poor quality finish! A common site now on Ferrari’s more modern models is the “Manettino”, an adjustable dial found on the steering wheel opposite the Start Button. This allows the driver to choose between three settings; Low-Grip Conditions, Sports and Racing. Ah, the steering wheel. Flashing LED’s recessed into the Carbon of the steering wheel light up in unison with the Rev Counter, allowing the driver a more visual aid of knowing when to change gear if and when pushing the 599 towards its limits (however the exhaust note should also help with this!) Externally the 599 GTB has been given a skin of pure elegance. Form blends with beauty. At a little over 4.65m long and nearly 2m wide the 599 GTB is a showpiece for the Pininfarina design studio. From its wide rear haunches flaring out and merging into rear screen side air foils, to its wide and long front bonnet with deep vents, the 599 GTB simply cuts through the air. As always the design carries an element of déjà vu from its predecessors, and why not as it all adds to that sense of evolution to the model. Overall the 599 GTB Fiorano allows the owner to have an all round Ferrari, capable of being an every day car whilst attending to the drivers sportier moods when called upon.
