Known History

1992 BMW M3 E30

The M3 was unveiled at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show having been developed by BMW Motorsport as a homologation special based on the E30 3-series saloon. In order that the car could compete in Touring Car Racing under the Group A rules it was a requirement to build 5000 identical cars. The M3 made its first appearance at the Monza round of the World Touring Car Championship in March 1987, although most of those entered were disqualified!

The normally aspirated engine was based on the block of the 320, overbored to 2.3 litres with a 16 valve head, producing just under 200bhp in road trim. The body shell was revised with box arches to accommodate larger wheels and tyres, front and rear spoilers and stiffened with bonded screens front and rear. The suspension set up incorporated increased castor, lowered springs and a special anti-roll bar linked to the uprated struts. Larger bearings and five stud wheel mounting came from the 5-series.

Production of the M3 continued until early 1992, by which time some 18000 had been built through various Evolution and special edition models.

Originally supplied by Menzies BMW of Stirling,  Scotland in 1992 and having its last service by them at 54114 miles, as stamped in the original Service Book.

The mileage is also supported by old MoT certificates back to the cars first in 1995.
