- Purchased in 1996 by current owner, Wes Abendroth, who prepared it to race in the grueling Pan Am Race in Mexico
- No expense was spared
- In 1998 Lord March of the Goodwood Race in England, heard about the race car, because it resembled the Corvette which raced there in 1961 driven by Alan Markelson, he invited Abendroth and Markelson to team drive the car in the first Goodwood Revival Race held that year
- In 1999 General Motors contacted Abendroth to come back to Goodwood and team race with Hall of Fame Racer Dick Guldstrand and they would support this effort
- This is believed to be the only time GM has sponsored a car in a vintage race
- In 2000, Dick Guldstrand raced it again in the HMSA General Racing Coronado Grand Prix of San Diego, CA
