Known History

The XJ-S (later the XJS) was Jaguar's replacement for the iconic E-Type, though totally different in character - while the E-Type began life as a race-bred sports car, the XJ-S was conceived as far more of a Grand Tourer. Based on the XJ Saloon, the newcomer made its first appearance in September 1975. Initially it was powered by the company's 5.3-litre V12 engine mated to either a manual or automatic gearbox, but the manual option was soon withdrawn. In 1979, the Borg-Warner Model 12 automatic unit was replaced by GM's Turbo-Hydromatic 400 unit. A new 'High Efficiency' engine with increased power was introduced in 1981, along with five-spoke alloy wheels, revised bumpers and updates to the interior trim. The following year, the model somewhat unexpectedly took to the race tracks, taking first and second place in the Silverstone TT. The Cabriolet version of the XJ-S, the XJ-SC, made its debut in 1983, equipped with the new 3.6-litre AJ6 engine. This two-seater model was not a full Convertible, having a non-removable centre section and fixed cant rails above the doors. The option of Jaguar's established 5.3-litre V12 engine came in 1985 and in 1988 the Targa-type body was replaced with a fully Convertible one. Some 12,372 Convertible XJSs and 5,013 Cabriolet XJ-SCs were made before the model range was replaced by the XK8 in 1990.

The striking V12-engined XJS Convertible on sale sports bright Red coachwork and a Barley-coloured leather interior. It is equipped with a full Paul Bailey 'Monaco' conversion, including rare hardtop. Recent attention reportedly includes the refurbishing of the power steering rack and the fitting of: new oil filter, spark plugs, plug leads, air filter, distributor cap, rotor arm, coil, ignition module, battery. 'J1 GPM' comes with two sets of keys, immobiliser, tonneau cover and is MOT'd into October.

PLEASE NOTE: When moving this vehicle into position we noticed it was suffering from very low oil pressure and was losing oil.
