This is a 3+ +, (#2 range w/ a little work) absolutely solid, NO rust, total frame–up restoration on an original California titled car. The popular `70’s, “California or Cal-Look” cosmetic & mechanical resto was done by a professional CA shop at least 10+ years ago & has been presently owned, garaged, maintained & pleasurably driven by its second owner, a female schoolteacher (not the “Little old lady from Pasadena”) I do not have any pre-2000 paperwork to go w/ the car & am relying on my professional opinion & owner’s statements, but it’s very apparent that this was a top-notch total restoration that has proven it roadworthiness.

BODY & PAINT- The VW was resprayed in Pumpkin Orange top to bottom, inside /out. Bright Orange was an available color & I don’t know if this matches the orig. The car is rock-solid metal everywhere. Check out the pics, particularly under the spare wheel well. The bottom is undercoated. The paint is beautiful & has a few road chips & one small dent on the RF fender lip. (see pic) The owner is in the process of having all the areas retouched.

ENGINE – 1st look &listen to the movie on my Website. This is a modified, Porsche engine w/ twin, dual throat Carbs w/ K&N filters & a complete chrome dress-up kit, braided lines & custom, chrome tipped dual exhaust. Very cool to look at, drive & hear. No leaks or drips visible. The twin-throat carbs are either Solex or possibly Webers & are in total sync. I couldn’t find any identifying marks on them, but I’m certain one of you more knowledgeable people out there will know. Either way it has lots more power than stock & drives beautifully. I can’t substantiate if it’s a Porsche engine (maybe some of you can tell by looking) but this is what was told to me & to the present owner upon purchase. VW’s will accept Porsche as well as many other engines. Also, some 914’s & VW’s interchanged engines for awhile. A 911 engine will fit w/ some mods, & again, I don’t personally know if this is a modified, VW 1600cc or a Porsche derivative.

INTERIOR - black vinyl seats, panels & carpets were replaced & are excellent. Dash& instrumentation are in very good condition. Wood grain on glove box is worn, driver’s heater lever is missing knob & aftermarket Panasonic AM/FM CD isn’t a custom fit. Console is loose, hold-down screws are probably missing. Very nice, padded, 4 spoke Formuling racing type steering wheel.

TOP - appears to be the original & w/ a good dressing will appear almost new. It has no rips or tears & the window is completely clear. The inside could use a cleaning & has a 2 ½ “ stitching loss as seen in the pic.

WHEELS - Very nice retro-look, 8 spoke brushed aluminum MINILITE style. Was told they were Rocket, but found no name on wheels or evidence to support this.

TIRES – Newer, Full tread, HANKOOK VENTUS PLUS R-S2 (Z212) Tires -195/50ZR15 “The Ventus R-S2 Z212 was created from the successful Ventus RSS Z211 racing design. It has been brought to the street with improved road contact surface area for dry traction and a tread design featuring exceptional water dispersion for wet conditions. The result is a street tire delivering maximum grip with the proven Ventus Ultra-High Performance tread compound”.
The functioning odometer reads 16,280 miles & while possibly not actual, I would say it’s negligible because of the high-level, total restoration, excellent condition & flawless driving record over the last 10 years. The car certainly shows no signs of having the speedo rolled over.

There are a few things I don’t about this Beetle but what I do know is that it runs & has done so w/o a miss for the last 9-10 years.
