This 1968 Camaro isn't pretending to be stock anymore, and wow, what a great-looking car! It shimmers in the afternoon sun and glows under the lights in our showroom! Applied over some straight bodywork, it seems to emphasize every curve and line on the Camaro's body. It fits together nicely, too, with great shut-lines and tight gaps that suggest someone took their time with this one, and you'll be proud to show it off. The grille has been blacked-out, but the rest of the chrome and stainless remains and much of it has been restored. The bumpers, for example, are bright and straight, the stainless window surrounds are clean, and things like the door handles and taillight bezels are crisp reproductions. This is one heck of a handsome car. The standard black Strato bucket seat interior has been restored to stock condition, and like the body, features upgrades that merely enhance what was already great. The seats are comfortable and supportive, the door panels are replacement pieces, and the carpets appear recent. Original gauges still keep an eye on speed and fuel level, but a trio of mechanical auxiliary gauges has been built into the center stack, and an Auto Meter monster tach lives on the console adjacent to the Hurst cue ball shifter. A newer AM/FM/cassette stereo with separate graphic equalizer has been fitted and looks good in the custom-made panel. A fat, leather-wrapped Grant GT steering wheel rounds out the list of modifications, and looks like it belongs in the Camaro's driver-oriented passenger compartment. In back, you'll find that the trunk-mounted battery helps weight distribution, but precludes the use of a full-sized spare tire. The engine is a thumping 406 cubic inch small block Chevy linked to a 4-speed manual transmission. As with most big cubic inch Chevy stroker motors, it makes big torque, yet loves to rev thanks to a deep-breathing Edelbrock intake and Holley carburetor. Chevy Orange dresses it up like a stock piece, but it won't take folks long to figure out that it's something special. Aluminum valve covers, billet pulleys, a big aluminum radiator, and long-tube headers definitely give away its performance credentials. The inner fenders and firewall have been painted to match the body, which adds a custom touch. Underneath, it's solid and clean, but definitely built for the road with sound-deadening undercoating, subframe connectors, and a support girdle on the 12-bolt rear end. The exhaust system uses Flowmaster mufflers and turn-downs just ahead of the rear axle, which is pretty hard core. Finishing it off is a set of gorgeous Eagle alloys wearing 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear Firestone performance radials. It's hard to beat a torquey small block for fun on the street. The handling remains crisp, especially with those big tires, yet it pulls like a big block.
