We are very pleased to offer 288 GTO Evoluzione s/n 79888, one of only five truly awesome 288 GTO Evoluziones built by Ferrari and Michelotto as the ultimate evoluzione of the 288 GTO concept! 288 Evo s/n 79888 is a completely new car built in 1985–1986 to compete in the Group B Championship against Porsche’s high–tech 959 Group B racer and to also act as a test car for the upcoming F40 program. After the Group B Rally program was cancelled, this unique Ferrari acted as a mobile test bed for the technological tour de force that would become the F40, introduced by Enzo Ferrari at Maranello in 1987. Delivered to its first owner in December 1988, 288 Evo s/n 79888 is one of only two 288 Evos fitted with Ferrari’s tipo F114 CK 2885 cc twin–turbocharged V–8, and thanks to a 7.8 compression ratio, large IHI water–cooled turbochargers running at 1.7 bar, and huge intercoolers, puts out a staggering 650 hp! From 0 to 125 mph takes a mere 10 seconds and with the “tall” gears, a top speed of 225 mph is attainable! The lightweight carbon–fiber body panels can be quickly removed and the entire car, ready to go, weighs a mere 1050 kg or 2310 pounds, offering performance that leaves an F40 a rapidly shrinking speck in the rear view mirror!

Ferrari had originally planned to build twenty 288 GTO Evos as required by FISA’s minimum requirements for Group B homologation but because the Group B category was cancelled, the five 288 Evos built remain the most exclusive of Ferrari Supercars and s/n 79888 is the first 288 GTO Evo to be offered for sale in over ten years! This Supercar can be imported into the U.S.A. without the nightmares of the EPA thanks to the “Show and Display” option. In museum–quality condition, meaning unused and not run in approximately fifteen years, so long–deferred maintenance is due. 288 GTO Evoluzione s/n 79888 is priced very right at $895,000.
