From the Italian Collector Sig. Giuseppe Prevosti

220bhp (est.), 6,750cc overhead valve
V-8 engine, four-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel independent suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 119.5in. (3,035mm).

In 1966, the dated Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud and Bentley S-Series were replaced by the Silver Shadow and T-Series, respectively. Four-wheel disc brakes and air-conditioning were now standard alongside power windows, steering, and transmission. A new hydraulic levelling system improved the cars’ suspension while engine displacement grew to 6.75 litres in 1970. The new cars utilized unit construction as opposed to the previous separate body and chassis assembly.

Although true coachbuilt bodies were therefore no longer available, the two-door variants were produced by H. J. Mulliner-Park Ward from the original saloon structures provided by Bentley. These coupés and cabriolets were named Corniche, in honour of the road along the Côte d'Azur between Nice and Monte Carlo. Produced in far fewer numbers than their Rolls-Royce counterparts, only 120 Bentleys were built in 1974, and fewer still were Corniche models.

The left-hand drive Corniche offered here was purchased by Mr. Provosti in 1989 from Gianni Maria Comuni of Florence, Italy. The car received work to its underbody, including cleaning and detailing, shortly thereafter but has remained in largely original and well-maintained condition ever since.

The body remains in good overall condition and appears to have been accident-free throughout its history. Finished in blue with a red coach stripe and a black vinyl roof, the paintwork seems to be original and reflective of the car’s age.

The interior is finished in black leather with blue carpeting, both of which are original and in good overall condition, likewise suggesting confirmation of the car’s mileage – as it displays pleasant patina. The wooden dash is of the same quality and is fitted with the original radio and gauges. The odometer indicates less than 76,500 kilometres. Original and unrestored, the engine bay is tidy and shows evidence of regular maintenance.

The vendor reports that the car runs and drives very smoothly without any problems. Well-presented, straight, and highly original, this Bentley is a lovely example of the luxurious and exclusive Corniche coupés. It is ready to be enjoyed and driven immediately.
