Specially prepared for use as a factory team car, chassis 0196A was fitted with lightweight spyder bodywork by Vignale. Appointed to race veteran Piere Taruffi for the 1952 Mille Miglia, he was to act as team pacemaker to the other Scuderia Ferrari entries over those gruelling one thousand miles. Taruffi quickly went about setting a blistering pace, ultimately ensuring an overall victory for Ferrari. Subsequently prepared for the Grand Prix de Berne and piloted by Willy-Peter Datwyler, 0196A was to have its final works outing at Le Mans in the hands of the legendary Trintignant and Rosier. This 340 has undergone a painstaking restoration by leading Ferrari specialists, returning to the the Mille Miglia, as well as competing at the prestigious Monaco Historique and the Le Mans Classic.
