The early Ford Bronco didn't start the SUV craze, but can definitely take credit for taking it mainstream. With tidy proportions and a car-like feel, the Bronco made everywhere accessible to the guy with a checkbook and a driver's license. This 1974 Bronco represents a rare find-a rust-free Ranger with a V8, fully sorted and ready to get dirty. Refinished in brilliant Grabber Blue and Wimbledon White, two traditional Ford colors, this is a lovely trip back to when off-roading was in its infancy, but the hardware was capable. A complete restoration was completed in 2005, and the little trucklet remains in excellent condition today with no evidence of off-road abuse. Useful upgrades include a spare tire carrier mounted out back and a pair of big tow hooks sprouting under the chrome front bumper. The body fits together as well as could be expected for an industrial-grade tool such as the Bronco, and that's definitely part of the charm. If it was perfect, would you ever take it on an adventure? Believe it or not, that's an NOS houndstooth interior that was discovered complete and intact somewhere, and may be the last one in existence. It included fresh seat covers, new carpets, and replacement headliner and visors, all adding up to a very factory-correct and comfortable driving environment. And where the stock Bronco was a fairly bare-bones creature, it's almost instant collectability and massive aftermarket support has made it possible to dress them up for comfort and performance well beyond what the factory intended. There's a Tuffy center console that's useful as well as comfortable, a newer Jensen AM/FM/CD stereo system with a pair of big speakers in the cargo area, and a small diameter steering wheel that fits in your hands perfectly. Basic factory gauges are all functional, and the finish quality of the work is impressive. A 302 cubic inch crate motor was installed 8000 miles ago, and everything around it was either new or rebuilt during the restoration, including the starter, alternator, power steering system, distributor, and battery, ensuring that this truck is reliable enough to take anywhere. And as wonderful as these were right out of the box, a few smart modifications make this one almost invincible out on the trail. Upgrades include a James Duff 3-inch suspension lift with new springs, shocks, steering stabilizer, plus some stout skid plates fore and aft. The transmission is a C4 3-speed automatic spinning a Ford 9-inch out back and a rugged Dana 44 up front, a setup that has proven itself for decades. Power disc brakes are a welcome addition, finally joining the options list in 1976, but easily retrofitted to earlier models such as this. Custom 8-inch wide wheels wear original hubcaps and relatively massive 32x11.5x15RLT tires with a lot of life left in them. This is a nicely sorted, ready to climb Bronco for a fraction of the cost to restore one to this condition. Call us today and have some fun in the mud!
