The industrial strength Mopars of the mid-60s were some of the most single-minded performance cars ever built. You could walk into a dealership and get a Coronet like this one stuffed full of some very impressive hardware for not a lot of money. This is a numbers-matching 440/375HP car and a real Coronet R/T. White is what they called it, and describes this car perfectly. I always like to think of cars like this awesome Cornet as blank canvases, a clean slate with the basics covered and you can build from there. Obviously the owner of this cool piece took that to heart, and added his own details such as the massive air scoop and subtle deck lid spoiler. The finish is simple and clean, the body lines are straight and even, and the Coronet's honest, get-the-job-done character shines through. Who doesn't love that canted C-pillar, looking like modern architecture as much as an automobile, the squared-off quarters, and those beautifully finished taillights? Mopar designers were hitting on all 8 Hemi-sized cylinders in the '60s, and even the least expensive cars got the full treatment. This one is accented by a bright red pinstripe and R/T badges on its flanks, and there's no denying that this car looks like it should be prowling Woodward Avenue late at night. I know I wouldn't tangle with it unless I had some pretty serious hardware under my foot. Bright red is the ideal complement to the bodywork, especially with the matching pinstripe. This has always been an extremely solid car so it hasn't had metal work or patch panels. Expertly restored, the bucket seat interior features a console, beautifully stitched seat covers, and dark red carpets that anchor the interior. The metallic dashboard appears to be mostly original, including the gauges, which are supplemented by a column-mounted tach and a set of auxiliary gauges monitoring temperature and oil pressure. Mopar enthusiasts will note the presence of a 150 MPH speedometer is the dash, which was only installed on the R/T models. The original radio remains in the dash, but an AM/FM/cassette head unit-complete with graphic equalizer!-has been neatly integrated into a custom housing below the dash. A small diameter leather-wrapped steering wheel is a lot easier to grab than the original thin-rimmed plastic piece. Under that massive hood scoop is an equally massive power plant, with a #'s matching 440 cubic inch motor topped off by an extremely sought after-and valuable-factory Six Pack induction system. The original 4 barrel intake is included and is in the trunk of the car. With plenty of chrome and bright red wire loom, it looks very custom, and the presentation is impressive. Like its ancestors that prowled the streets with Hemis and Max Wedge lumps under the hood, this is a car built for a single purpose, and for that it is extremely potent. A freshly rebuilt 727 TorqeFlite automatic transmission is a great dance partner, with quick reflexes and bulletproof internals. Out back, power is put to the ground through a legendary 8 3/4 rear-end with posi-traction. The chassis is undercoated, there's a great-sounding dual exhaust system, and it rides on a set of Centerline wheels wearing 215/60/15 front and 245/60/15 rear radials. This car embodies the best of the industrial strength Mopars: big engines in a comfortable, full-sized wrapper. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
