Pssst... Here's a secret: Mustangs are really Falcons underneath. Yes, that's right, this cool 1964 Ford Falcon convertible runs and drives just like its more popular brother for a fraction of the cost. Complete with a 289 and a 4-speed, it's also somewhat rare in its own right. Restored several years ago, they decided to go with a bright, vivid blue in place of the pedestrian Wimbledon White, and who could complain? There's a bit of metallic in the paint, too, so the compact Falcon seems to take on the look of a bigger, more substantial car and the light plays over the detailing that's often lost on solid colors. For instance, dig the vestigial tail fins, the dual reliefs running down the center of the hood like racing stripes, and the cool way the sheetmetal follows the contours of the side trim. Never noticed that stuff on a Falcon before, did you? The car looks great in person, and you'll be proud to roll up to the next cruise night behind the wheel, and you'll undoubtedly get extra appreciation for daring to be a little different. Matching blue buckets give the interior a sporty demeanor, and there's plenty of space for four in this cool ragtop. Since this was a color change from red to blue, matching carpets with the correct weave were installed at the same time, along with door panels, a new dash pad, and even proper blue sun visors. The Falcon didn't necessarily include a center console, and many prefer the purposeful look of the Hurst shifter poking out of the transmission tunnel all by itself. The gauges are basic and the original AM radio remains in place. A white power convertible top seals up well and stows underneath a matching blue vinyl boot. The 289 cubic inch V8 nestled between the shock towers looks awfully familiar, doesn't it? Not over-dressed, but with some chrome bits like the valve covers and air cleaner, it looks nice enough that you won't be ashamed to lift the hood at a show. Thanks to an Edelbrock Performer intake and 4-barrel carburetor, it makes great power and a wonderful V8 soundtrack, moving the lightweight Falcon easily. A Ford 4-speed manual can take the abuse and delivers better entertainment than the original 2-speed automatic, while the original 3.20-geared 8-inch rear still lives out back. One glance underneath will convince you that this Falcon has nothing to hide. It's highly original, very solid, and there's no thick coating of rustproofing goop designed to hide shoddy workmanship. The exhaust sounds muscular without being obnoxious, making this Falcon more of a sleeper than any Mustang could ever muster, and those '68 Mustang GT wheels sporting new Cooper Cobras fit perfectly and look right. For all the thrills of a Mustang in a more unusual and stealthy package, this Falcon deserves a look. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
