The Adler bicycle company was founded in the late 19th century in the German port city of Frankfurt-am-Main. Subsequent ventures into three and four-wheeled transportation were abandoned in favor of continued bicycle manufacturing.

The Adler bicycle presented here has been fitted with a rare and unusual Nordap engine, which propels the bicycle from the front wheel. It appears to be entirely original and its condition is reflective of its age. The black finish suffers from paint loss in various locations while the pedals show signs of wear and the wheels, fenders, and frame show pitting and corrosion. The obscure German-built Nordap exhibits evidence of road use, although it remains reasonably clean and appears to have been refinished rather recently in silver, along with the gas tank mounted to the front wheel. Other items of note include a bell, a rear-mounted parcel carrier, and a headlight.
