1930 might very well have been the finest year for Ford ’ s Model A. Its 21-inch wheels were replaced by 19-inch wheels sporting wider tires. This, in turn, made for a more stylish appearance while lowering the car ’ s center of gravity, thereby improving handling on America ’ s rapidly improving roads. Additionally, wider fenders and a deeper radiator shell contributed to a revised and more refined look. Coupled with various engine, transmission, and braking advancements, the Model A ’ s design had improved tremendously over that of its predecessor.

The Model A Roadster Pickup offered here was previously the property of an enthusiast in Indiana before becoming part of the Wiseman Collection in 1996. Its condition is show-quality throughout and outstanding in virtually every regard. The maroon and black paint with deep red pin striping is excellent and has been applied in a very professional manner. The tan convertible top has been properly fitted and is reflective of the car ’ s remarkable overall condition. At the rear, the oak pickup bed with metal stripes has been painstakingly sanded, varnished, and pin striped to the highest standards. All of the brightwork has also been renewed and appears to be well-maintained. Every interior element is as-new, from the chocolate brown vinyl upholstery and side panels to the steering wheel and maroon dash.

Show quality workmanship is also readily apparent under the hood, where the green engine block is complemented by new hoses, clamps, wiring, and other relevant components. The undercarriage has been painted and detailed and, although the quality of the suspension and frame pieces were not prepared to the same standards, they give a clean overall appearance. It should be noted that this particular Model A is generously equipped with optional side-mounted spare tires, dual cowl lights, a stainless steel stone guard, and etched wind wings.

The Model A proved that Fords were no longer rudimentary automobiles with emphasis on simplicity of operation and maintenance. Those produced in 1930, of which this Roadster Pickup is a superb example, are considered some of the finest vehicles to come from Ford.
