The big news at Chevrolet in 1929 was a new overhead-valve six-cylinder engine – the “ Cast Iron Wonder ” that would remain in production for 35 years. Although Ford ’ s Model A, some $75 cheaper, outsold it within two years, the more sophisticated Chevrolet was out in front and stayed there, with few exceptions, for the rest of the century.

At the top of the Chevrolet line was the Imperial Landau Convertible, a four-door, five-passenger car with a folding top at the rear. Priced at $725, it offered cowl lamps, walnut inlay window garnish moldings, and rich mohair upholstery and headliner as standard equipment. Exclusive to the Landau was an exterior color combination of Crockett Brown with Mistino Gray, accented with orange pin striping on wheels and body. The folding top, which featured functional landau irons, could be ordered in tan Haartz cloth or black leatherette. A mere 305 were built.

The Chevrolet Landau Convertible offered here was the recipient of a recent high-quality restoration. Painted in the correct color scheme with orange accent striping, it has a tan Haartz cloth top. The wheels are light brown in color with orange striping and chrome lug nuts, and the rear-mounted spare has an embossed vinyl cover bearing the Chevrolet logo. The chocolate brown interior, redone at the time of restoration, coordinates nicely with the exterior color scheme. Glass appears as new and the instrument panel is clean and crisp. The odometer reads 96 miles, which may very well be the mileage since restoration. The engine compartment is clean and well detailed, the engine painted in correct grey color. Manifolds and accessories are also in excellent condition, and the firewall is finished in body color, giving the compartment a show quality appearance. It should be noted that an original copy of “ Instructions for the operation and care of Chevrolet Motor Cars International Series AC ” , and a reprint of “ Chevrolet Repair Manual 1929-1932 Six-Cylinder Cars and Trucks ” are included in the sale.

This is an exceptional Chevrolet featuring a low production body style, correctly restored to a very high standard. It is ready to be enjoyed on the road or entered in serious concours competition.
