Introduced in March 1983 as a 1984 model, the fourth generation Corvette arrived later than planned but was better than anyone (except Corvette ’ s engineering and development team) expected. The wait, and the absence of a 1983 production model Corvette, was worth it.

As the first complete Corvette redesign since 1963, the team of Dave McLellan and Jerry Palmer delivered a Corvette that at the same time both satisfied the expectations of the Corvette community and was a quantum leap forward in handling. Front-engined and rear wheel drive, its all-independent suspension was brand new, designed in conjunction with Goodyear tire engineers to make the most of the latest tire development, the low profile unidirectional “ Gatorback ” . The combination was fantastically successful, delivering 0.95g in testing, the highest lateral acceleration ever recorded for a production car. The 16 -inch alloy wheels with Gatorbacks were listed as an option, but in fact were fitted to all 1984 Corvettes.

Standard equipment was lavish, including air conditioning, power steering and brakes, power windows, electronically tuned AM-FM radio, as well as a leather wrapped steering wheel on a tilting and telescoping column.

In 1986, Corvette engineers added substantial additional support to the chassis structure and strengthened the windshield posts and header sufficiently to meet Federal rollover standards. Also added to Corvette ’ s already comprehensive standard equipment in 1986 were ABS braking, an enhanced Anti-Theft System, an improved dashboard display, increased front wheel caster angle and a center high-mounted brake light.

A gift from his wife, Mr. Wiseman was the very first and only owner of this 1986 Chevrolet Corvette. Mrs. Wiseman purchased the red Corvette in late 1985 from Bush Chevrolet Buick in Wilmington, Ohio. Shortly after taking possession, Mr. Wiseman had a centrifugal type supercharger installed to bump performance up a significant notch.

Today the Corvette remains in very good condition overall. Aside from the supercharger, the car has had no modifications and retains its original red paint and red leather interior. Very nicely optioned, the Corvette has a removable single piece glass top, an automatic transmission, and a factory GM Delco Bose stereo system. Being the sole owner, Mr. Wiseman has all the original documentation, which will be passed on to the next owner.
