In the early fifties, Cadillac was on a roll – flashy styling and high performance made the luxury marque the first choice of a new generation of buyers. Young and exciting, Cadillac displaced Packard as the leader in the fine car market. History would record that these factors came together to stimulate the most exciting era of automotive excess.

In 1955, all Cadillacs came standard with GM ’ s smooth shifting Hydramatic automatic transmission, and featured an array of comfort and convenience accessories, many of which were standard equipment on the Eldorado Convertible Coupe.

The 1955 Eldorado Convertible was easily distinguished from its closest relative, the Series 62 Convertible, by its “ Rocket ship ” styled tailfins – it was the first Cadillac to abandon the “ Fish ” tailfins that had appeared on every model since 1948. This new tailfin design required a revised brake and backup light layout; the lights were placed in pods mounted to the base of the tailfins. Saber-spoke wheels replaced the standard wire wheels, found on all previous Eldorado models, and to better show them off, there were no fender skirts in the rear wheel wells.

The very elegant 1955 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible Coupe presented here in red, with a red and white leather interior, was treated to a body-off rotisserie restoration and remains in very impressive condition today. Remarkably, the interior, which is believed to be original, has been preserved in outstanding condition showing very little wear and virtually no noticeable flaws. In addition to new paint, all the chrome and brightwork was either replaced or replated, as were all the rubber seals.

The engine compartment, which features the Eldorado dual-quad carburetor setup with a glossy gold batwing type air cleaner, has been restored and detailed to show-quality standards, adhering strictly to factory correct, original specifications. Likewise, the underside of the car was finished in body color and the frame and related driveline components were painted gloss black. The gas tank retains its proper galvanized steel appearance.

A highly presentable example in excellent mechanical condition, this Eldorado Convertible requires nothing more than an enthusiastic new owner who will take advantage of the myriad classic car motoring opportunities this Cadillac presents.
