In 1955, Chevrolet ’ s Bel Air was the top series and included everything standard on the lower priced models, plus a lot more – comfort, convenience and styling enhancements. In addition, the series added richer upholstery fabrics, horizontal chrome strips on the sides of the front fender and doors and a gold Bel Air script, just to name a few.

The 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe pictured here was ushered into the Wiseman Collection in 1995, having previously resided in the possession of “ Gene ” of Gene ’ s Refrigeration Company in Medina, Ohio. The Sport Coupe recently completed a concours quality body-off rotisserie restoration, which adhered to proper Chevrolet specifications, yet to better than new condition. As a result, the two-tone Gypsy Red and Shoreline Beige paint scheme is flawless, having been properly prepped before being sprayed, then buffed to a glass-like finish. All the chrome was refinished, and the body panels were properly aligned.

Displaying a similar level of perfection, the interior, finished in the same colors as the exterior, is all new and flawless in its installation. Under the hood, the engine bay is spotless and displays all the period correct hardware. Equipped with an automatic transmission, power brakes, and power steering, this is an easy and enjoyable car to operate. With the optional power pack option, which consisted of a single four-barrel carburetor, dual exhausts and deflectors that boosted output 18 horsepower over the standard V8, the Bel Air is also a strong performer.

Other desirable features found on this Chevrolet include a Wonderbar radio, a facial tissue dispenser, the optional bumper guards, rocker panel moldings, fender skirt stone guards, the door handle nail guards, twin mirrors, and a continental kit.

This highly optioned, very comfortable and enjoyable Bel Air Sport Coupe is one of the most iconic cars of the 1950s and in terms of condition, one of the finest automobiles in the Wiseman Collection. It is an AACA National champion and given the quality of the restoration and its overall condition, its value will continue to appreciate just as its desirability has these last several years.
