Known History

1966 Shelby 427 Cobra

#3271

#Original 427 Engine

CSX 3271 In addition to its excellent quality and stunning presence, benefits from an extensive documented ownership history detailed in the world registry of the Shelby American Automobile Club

• Invoiced on April 10, 1966.

• This is a 'California Black Plate', which is of historical significance. Attached a few pictures of the the car's 'California Black Plate'. This is very special, and will of course go with the car.

If you are unfamiliar, the 'California Black Plate' cars are historically significant, as they no longer make those plates, so that it means that any car with one is an early California car. We're not as crazy about license plates here in the U.S., as some in other countries, so the plate isn't going to be worth $1M or anything, but it's a very significant bit of history for a car and definitely a 'nice to have'.

• CSX 3271 was delivered new to Hayward Motors in Hayward, California on October 10, 1966. At an invoice price of a staggering (at the time) $6,145.

• Sold to Mr. Wayne Skiles of Oakland, California in the early 1970s.

• In 1975 Skiles advertised it for sale: “ AC Cobra 427. Exceptional doesn't nearly describe this 30,000-mile car. Straight, clean, and reasonably priced at $18,000. Many extras. If you want a 427, you won't find a better one for sale. Consider a later model Miura or Daytona. No flakes! ”

• Sold to Mr. Lonnie W. Stovall of Lake Tahoe, who met Mr. Skiles and purchased the car on the spot in 1975.

• Staying on the West Coast, it was purchased byMr. Steve Murphy in the mid 1980s. Upon his acquisition of CSX 3271, the car had been painted black and apparently had chrome side pipes, a chrome roll bar, a hood scoop 9.5" rear Halibrands, and a California plate reading “ XGD 219 ”. Murphy also participated in a number of vintage racing events. The car ultimately changed hands twice more, briefly found itself in Kentucky, until finally finding its way back home to California.

Finished in Raven Black, as it was repainted much earlier in its history, it is otherwise largely original, retaining its original leather upholstery, side curtains, and convertible top.

• Sold briefly to a collector in 2007, who traded it on to purchase another Ferrari.

• In November 2007, sold to Mark Ketcham (Mark@KetchamImports.com) Ketcham Imports. 707.395.0700.
