To compete in the 1965 race season against the leading Ferrari's, Porsche built the 904/6 (a heavy modification from the production 904 series) as a GTP/Prototype car. The factory already ordered fifty new bodies and chassis' for building this second series car's. Changes in the F.I.A. ruling stopped these efforts to build the outstanding six-cylinder powered 904. Only six cars (904/6 Coupe's) were ever built and were driven by the factory only.
